It's a ceramic coating that has a sliver matalic finish. Keeps the heat in the pipe, so better performance and also no rust. It also comes in a flat black, it's used for the exit flaps on jet engines. That's were the name came from. With That said, tail pipes do not get very hot, most of an outer sleeve that you can coat.
